Let me introduce myself. My name is Nate Hoffman. I hold a Doctorate in physical therapy, and I’m the proud father of 4 children, ages 6 and under. It’s insanity, and I love it. Wouldn’t change a thing. Though, it does present some real challenges when it comes to finding time to take care of myself, including getting adequate exercise, which I genuinely enjoy.
My passion for exercise started in high school. When I was 16, I had a knee surgery that put an abrupt halt to my sports aspirations. Since I couldn’t really run anymore, I dove into exercise in search of the same high I got from baseball; I quickly became addicted. When I got to college, it became an obsession—I found myself spending 1 to 1.5 hours in the gym, daily (minus Sundays). Light focus on cardio, heavy emphasis on strength training. It was awesome. There’s just something about moving heavy things that feels really good to me, not to mention the results.
Keeping up that level of exercise has been a challenge ever since graduation. Life happens. And adjusting my exercise schedule to new and changing life circumstances has not always been my forte. Fatherhood being perhaps the greatest challenge yet. It has been hard. Still is. I suspect that any parent of young kids (or anyone with significant time commitments) has experienced the same challenge. Therein lies the reason I started this blog: to help people with limited time learn how to exercise effectively from home, without tons of space-occupying equipment. Believe me, I’d much rather go to a gym, but desperate times call for desperate measures. And I’d like to think I’ve learned a thing or two.
Much of the stuff I will share with you has come from hours of study. But the more practical stuff has simply come through trial and error as I have experimented throughout my fitness journey. I’m not saying I have all the answers, but I have a few. I look forward to sharing more with you. Cheers.
